What is a Girl’s Circle?
A girl’s circle is a group of girls who are of a similar age and who gather on a regular basis to learn, share and bond.
Meetings may be weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or at whatever interval works for those involved. I would suggest a minimum of once per month, longer and the girls may drift away from one another.
Each gathering of a girl’s circle has a theme which is decided upon and prepared by the facilitator. In a Shield Maidens circle, we use the chakra system as a basis for choosing our topic for the week. We discuss the chakra of the week and also have a learning time where we may talk about any number of things from our girl tribe and how we feel we fit in, to our thoughts on Divinity. We will always cover, at least once in a cycle of meetings, the topics of reproduction, anatomy, menstruation, masturbation, body image, how media affects us and finding and using our voices.
Other things we do in circle are learning real life skills, hearing stories about powerful women or women from mythology, enjoying movement through dance, and always a talking circle.
Circles can last for as long as you want, though a rule of thumb would be 1-3 hours, depending on the frequency with which you gather. I find that 1 hour is far too short…in fact, 3 hours is often far too short! We do all that we can in the time we have.
We call in and create sacred space and ceremony, we meditate, we talk, we dive deep.
My goal is to call the Divine Feminine into the lives of the girls I work with so that they can find their own inner divinity.
